The Engineering and Construction Academy is a unique, innovative, and collaborative partnership between Lincoln Unified School District, the Building Trades, the Construction Industry, and our Community. The purpose of the Academy is to provide students in grades 9-12 with a solid academic foundation in an authentic learning environment that leads to careers in the construction trades or allows students to continue their education in related construction fields at apprenticeship training centers, colleges, and universities. The foundation of the Academy is to provide “hands-on” and “project-based” learning that is integrated throughout the entire academic core curriculum.

The mission of the Engineering and Construction Academy is to Build a Workforce for California. Our Academy provides students with industry validated certifications and a four-year CTE digital portfolio through a comprehensive and sequenced course of study that integrates rigorous academics with the mechanical, technical, and hands-on skills needed to prepare our students for pre-employment and continuing education in the Building Trades and Construction Industry Career Sector. The new Academy will focuses on four career paths with CTE courses that are articulated and sequenced with the local community college and the California State University system. The Wood Products and Cabinetry Career path provides the opportunity for students to begin their careers in the Building Trades and Construction industry after graduating from high school in carpentry, masonry, concrete drywall etc.  The Mechanical Construction career path provides students the opportunity to enter a Pre-apprenticeship Program or continue their education at a junior college in HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing or Sheet Metal. The Construction Technology Career path provides students the opportunity to enter Pre-apprenticeship programs or continue their education at a junior college in finish and rough carpentry, woodworking, cabinet making or millwork. The Residential and Commercial Construction career path provides A-G rigorous college-prep coursework preparing our Academy students for entrance into the UC/CSU system majoring in engineering or architecture. Our articulated sequence of courses generates authentic academic rigor by making class work relevant to the construction industry while simultaneously illustrating the interdisciplinary relationships between courses across the curriculum. As entry-level workforce experience, Academy students concurrently enrolled at the junior college will be eligible for construction internships with our industry partners.

We need your support to sustain the Academy! Our Engineering and Construction Academy requires modern technology and equipment that provides a safe working environment for our students. We are in constant need of consumable supplies such as lumber, metal, concrete and the basic nuts and bolts required to teach our curriculum. Our new facility was designed as a “building that teaches” and highlights the latest green construction technologies. In order to accomplish our goals, we are continuing to reach out to our community and industry partners for additional support in order to sustain our Academy. Our new Academy is a “MODEL” program for our region and the state of California. Your company or business might be able to provide financial support, building materials, construction labor, and/or other in-kind donations that we need in order to make our Academy a success. Many local companies are hiring our students as interns or permanent employees. Our students are prepared to enter the work force right out of high school or continue their education at apprenticeship training centers or college. Our new facility features a donor recognition wall where we display all the company names and logos of our partners that have contributed to the building and maintaining of the new Engineering and Construction Academy. If you would like to be part of this exciting project please contact either Jeff L. Wright @ 209-639-1066 or David Dabaco @ 209-481-9899.  All donations are deposited in a special account and will be used for our Academy only. All checks should be made out to Lincoln Unified School District and please put a note on the check that it is for the Engineering and Construction Academy. Thanks for your consideration of supporting our model program at Lincoln High School.

Thanks again,
